DIY Laundry Hamper

Laundry hampers don't need to be plastic and ugly. This DIY laundry basket is one you'll want to have on display. It's easy to customize for your home by choosing your paint or stain colours and using a fabric that blends with your decor. So grab your tools and lets get started

*This project is sponsored by Ryobi Power Tools Canada. All product opinions and design choices are my own.

Steps

1. Drill pocket holes at the end of C, D, E, and G.

2.I like to lay out all of my pieces as a dry fit to make sure everything matches up.

3. Create the side panels ( 4 in total) by attaching A and C to create the front and back and attaching B and D to create the two sides. You will be using 1 ¼” pocket hole screws.

4. The lid will be made the same as the frames. The G boards attach to the F boards using 1 ¼” pocket hole screws.

5. Now paint/stain all 4 side pieces and the lid. I painted the inside of the pieces which made it a bit trickier for the glue to hold. In hind sight I should have left a small strip bare where the glue would be going when I attached the frame.

6. Now its time to attach the fabric. Measure out how large of a piece you will need for each frame. Then attach it using your Ryboi Airstrike Narrow Crown Stapler with 5/8 inch staples. Make sure you have the fabric nice and tight. Be sure to leave atleast ¾ inch from the edge of the fabric to the edge of the piece.

7. Now its time to assemble the hamper! You will make it by attaching two frames together at a time using your Ryobi Airstrike Brad Nailer with 1 inch brad nails and glue. Run a line of glue along the outside edge of a B frame and attach it to the back edge of an A frame. You will be shooting the brad nails through A into the side of B.

8. Now just repeat the process until you have attached the entire hamper box together!

9. Next I attached the bottom using 1 ¼ inc pocket screws. I also attached some felts pads since mine will be on resting on wood flooring. ( Sorry everyone I forgot to take photos of this! #fail)

10. In order for the lid to not smack the hamper everytime it closes I put 4 drops of hot glue on the corners to act as a buffer pad. You could buy something like these from the hardware store but this is a cost effective way to do it.

11. I added a handle at the front and attached it using super glue but you could go without as the wood frame of the top allows you to lift the lid up.

12. Now attach the hinges for the lid

13. This next step is optional. I wanted to be able to grab my laundry quick, so I added a laundry bag insert. I just attached 4 small hooks on the inside of the laundry hamper and that holds the bag up.

And now your done! Enjoy your new laundry hamper and being able to now see your floors instead of piles of clothes!
